Daughter-Two's bus card needing topping up so I decided to walk down the hill to Aro Valley to do it, rather than just going to the local shops. It's the route her sister takes to University most days.
Top of the hill:
And the view going down:
And, as I walked, I began thinking about garages. Because I have owned five houses so far in my life - and not one of them has had a garage.
As long as I stay in central Wellington that is unlikely to change.
But it IS possible to have a garage - or at least a carpad tp park on - provided you are prepared to make certain ... compromises.
Lots of them have little signs on saying "for cars and light vans only", which frankly doesn't fill me with much confidence.
But I don't mind not having a garage.
I am just glad we have only a short path to walk up to our house.
When I was a student I briefly lived in the cream coloured house in the middle of the trees in the next photo. No, there is no road up that hill, just a very steep flight of steeps leading to the house. It's what is known as a "walk- up" in local real estate lingo.
The walk I took was much more enjoyable, and as I got closer to Aro Valley the houses got more and more colourful.
Some, to be honest, were a little overgrown:
I was fascinated by the little shed in the middle of this photo - with Aro Valley at the bottom of the hill and the University at the top.
Anyway, it's lucky I enjoyed the walk because once I got down to Aro Valley I discovered none of the shops there sell bus card top ups.
So I ended up walking all the way downtown. Of course.
