Secret messages and soft colours

I loved the soft colours of this month’s BYOC palette, which lent itself to contemplative pages.

Not long ago I asked people in the scrappy community for theme ideas. Many of us now have older or adult children, so the theme of young adulthood and independence was a common request.

So while my BYOC collection CAN DO works as a ‘fall themed’ kit and is also loosely themed around learning, there are also little touches and elements that work for the young adult idea, plus the concept of determination and the tackling of hard things that are necessary when ‘adulting’.

I’m definitely not young ;-) but no matter how old we are, we can both forge new paths and draw on our reserves of determination.

Many of these journal elements I have included can carry little messages, like 20+, 123, ‘hard things’ and ‘the real world’.

The ‘single’ ticket and the ‘hard things’ tag on my layout carries the meaning for this page, which is outwardly a travel page but really isn’t.

Here’s another from the same trip (I was helping to amuse and care for the delightful Rosie while in Spain):

But it can take you wherever you want to go, as Geraldine and Brenda demonstrate below with two very different pages :-)

Save big with a mammoth weekend

Hello from Wellington, New Zealand, where we are in strict lockdown for the first time since early 2020, thanks to a delta case which snuck in from Australia. And it's a lockdown with added masks, as way back when we last had Covid restrictions like this, it's was the 'alpha' strain (old school Covid!) and we didn't know as much about the airborne nature of it. Fortunately none of us, especially Daughter-Two, really mind wearing one, even on our daily walks.

It's also very been very cold and wintry - so all in all a good time to be inside creating. Which is perfect, as it's a big weekend at The Lilypad.

There's this month's Mixed Media Monthly collection, an add-on collection from me, a new template set, lots of CU PLUS an exciting collaboration with Rachel Jefferies!

M3 - 'ENDINGS CAN BE BEAUTIFUL'

Here's the day the last cruise ship left NZ in 2020:

And, on the same theme, here we are in France (wearing the clothes we were going to throw out!) after SARs disrupted a planned move from London to Singapore, and after all our belongings had already been packed up.

BITTERSWEET COLLECTION
An add on Mixed media collection from me:

You can grab the whole collection (for the best value) or get the core kit (papers + elements) or the papers, elements, paints and brushes separately

KINDNESS CHANGES EVERYTHING

And THIS is really exciting! For a while Rachel Jefferies and I have been hoping to collaborate, and we finally made it happen:

You can also get the Journal cards, Mixed Media elements (paints and brushes) and elements separately:

There's also a template set:

The best revenge ...

It's been a strange process of unpicking lots of ingrained beliefs and behaviours around work for the past few months. For the past few years I have been working ridiculously long hours, both on my own stuff and for other people's ventures. Changing that and focusing only on my own designing means questioning what I was trying to prove, as well as why I need the security of [too much] work. It is itself a work in progress! ;-)

We are all free to define success on our own terms, within the constraints life puts upon us. What success looks like for one person will be completely different for someone else. But different does not mean wrong.

And that's the theme of this month's Mixed Media Monthly (M3) mega-collection.

DIFFERENT DOESN'T MEAN WRONG

AND I have an add on kit as well ....

THE BEST REVENGE

At the start of this year Facebook decided to pop a meme into my timeline and I laughed because it was totally inappropriate as usual but also, for once, exactly right. It went "The best revenge is no revenge. XXXX them. Be happy". Which inspired this month's M3 add on kit. There's a whole lot I could say about this one, but I am just going to leave it here  ;-)

It comes as separate papers and elements, too
